I think Mozilla should have something like MSN Messenger, but in the sidebar. 
It should notify you when you get new email by having a little message box that 
pops up right above the mail icon at the bottom. Then you click on the mail 
icon to check it. I think it would use less memory if it's done that way 
instead of leaving the mailbox opened all the time. This way Mozilla will have 
something integrated into it like Microsoft is trying to do with MSN Messenger.

we have this, at least, if I check mail and "I got mail", a small green icon
(modern here) pops up.  over to mailnews

I also see a small curved arrow popping over the "Mail" icon at the bottom of
the window when I've got new mail. What is your buildID Mike? Maybe this feature
has been added since you last downloaded.

I think the reporter is requesting the notification indicator to appear in the
task bar and/or have a standalone mail notification such as 4.x (windows only?) did.

There are duplicates out there...

The icon should appear in the browser by the mail button at the bottom and not 
in the system tray.

build and considering comments, doron said we have the indicator that you want.
