Verified on Firefox, and Chrome. Safari opens Twitter info in a new window instead of a new tab.

This is actually a default preference thing. In Safari, if you go to "Preferences..."->"Tabs"->"Open pages in tabs instead of windows:" it probably says "Never".
There is no way for us to force a page to open in a tab vs window from JavaScript. It's a user choice.
