Details

The Checking the Package section mentions that you can install an addon from Firefox's Add-ons Manager, but it doesn't explain how to do so, and unfortunately it's not very obvious from the Add-on Manager's interface.

The trick is to open the Tools drop-down menu (the one with the gear on it) inside the Add-ons Manager and select the Install Add-on From File option.  The docs should mention this to make it easier for addon developers to find it out.
