User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0b8pre) Gecko/20101119 Firefox/4.0b8pre Build Identifier: If you paste that javascript snippet into the addressbar, you are eventually given a checkbox to abort the infinite loop, letting you have control of the tab again. But that abort option is never given if you paste that snippet into the Error Console. The only way to regain control of the error console window is to kill firefox.exe. Reproducible: Always
Isn't this just because error console scripts are privileged? As in, that script could completely change anything it wants to about your Firefox install; there's no point trying to put in protections against it trying to do an alert loop.
Sure, nothing could stop a truly malicious script from eating my profile, but it would be nice if a lapse of judgement (pasting that code into the console instead of the addressbar to confirm the behavior you were describing in IRC) didn't force me to restart Firefox to get out of it.
