While testing beta 8 release automation in staging I hit a problem when one of the directories couldn't be created, probably due to too long path length (windows only).

Could not create the directory: ..\..\..\..\..\..\_tests\testing\mochitest\tests\parser\htmlparser\tests\mochitest\html5lib_tree_construction\scripted: No such file or directory

workdir path length became longer after switching to buildbot 0.8.x based release automation.

A simple solution would be using shortened names, see attached patch. Any other ideas?

So, if I'm reading this correctly, we'll get

r-mz-1.9.2_win32_build for example?

If we need to, I'm fine with it.  Other tools (purge_builds?  clobberer?) may need to be updated to cope with it.

Exactly. Not sure if this is enough, btw. :)

yeah, $RELEASE_PREFIX in clobberer (and the tests) and MozillaBuildFactory.ignore_dirs should be updated.

Is it possible to have builddir differ from builder name? I don't really like the idea of needing to parse these when I'm looking at things on WebStatus.

Oh, you are right.

Dropping here an untested patch as a possible b8 backup solution.

Seems ok, I worry a bit about things breaking because of the mismatch!
