If the username is not directly inferred from the email address, we can currently only support it with an autoconfig server at the ISP. The request contains the email address and the ISP can return the corresponding username using a DB lookup. Please see <https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Thunderbird/Autoconfiguration> If the ISP is unwilling to do that, the only alternative is bug 564043: custom fields. There, you can write down an example of a username, as you did above.
