61732 - Filters self-disable

Several of my filters fail to perform periodically. When I review my filters I
find the filter in question has somehow become disabled, so I re-enable it. A
few days later the same thing happens, and not always to the same filter! I am
using using Netscape 6.0/20001108 on NT4. I have 20 or so enabled filters to
distribute mail to nearly as many folders from a POP account.

Most of my filters ar sender based, but one I seem to have this problem with
fairly consistantly examines the subject for '[edm]'. I have not identified a
clear cause, and can offer no suggestion to reproduce this behavior :-(

Is there logic imbedded in the filter code that would disable the filter for
some legitimate reason? If so, would it 'log' this action/cause somewhere?

Reporter, bugzilla is not the place to report bugs about Netscape 6. For that, 
please use Netscape's own bug reporting form on their site. However if you 
(or anyone else) can reproduce this behavior with a latest build of Mozilla ( 
ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly ), it will be investigated. Thank you alot,

I experience the same behavior with recent mozilla builds so you might 
reopen it again. I filed a bug for this but I cannot locate it in 
bugzilla anymore. Anyhow I believe Mozilla has some problems parsing the 
rules.dat file as I see filters marked as enabled in the file but they 
show up disabled in Mozilla. After reenabling them the file is rewritten 
but after restarting Mozilla the same or other filters appear as 
disabled. This seems to be at random but most restarts leave at least 
one filter disabled. The rules.dat file has been brought over from older 
Netscape versions (4.7 -> 6.0 -> Mozilla).

For your convenience I enclose the contents of rules.dat at the end of 
this message. For privacy account data has been replaced with 
login@mailhost. Accounts at the beginning are disabled on purpose and 
filters in the second half of the file are especially prone to appear 
disabled in Mozilla. All this happens under W2K.

In 6.0 and next: Unless there's a new regression... one condition that could 
cause filters to diable is if you've been renaming or deleting folders which 
were filter destinations. 

I will try to reproduce the case of phantom disabled filters without having 
renamed or deleted folders and comment back.

In addition to my comments from 2001/02/02 posted by stephend:

it still happens although I have deleted those filters which have been unused.

It even sometimes occurs that all filters are displayed as enabled (the intended
setting) after startup and before getting messages. After getting messages some
of them appear disabled, i.e. settings seems to get manipulated by the program
in the process of getting mails (and applying filters). [Build 2001020820]

I see the same problem on win98. I 've been using a filter for Bugzilla since at
least 2 months without any problem. Two days ago I added a new filter. This
disables itself even in the same Mozilla session. Oddly, Bugzilla filter keeps
working reliably.
Both filters search for specific text in subject, if that helps. There were no
deleted folders related to those filters. Btw, isn't this bug a catfood?

In a scenario where filters have been disabled due to missing folders Mozilla
disables also filters which are using an existing folder. 
Try following steps:
1. create eight or so filter rules (e.g. as in my attachment above), 
2. delete the folders of first two folders and disable their filters
3. restart Mozilla
4. check filter rules. they should be all on except first two
5. get your mail
6. check your filter rules, some more than just the first two filters are disabled

This was a bit at random and it wasn't predictable which folders would disable,
so it could be that it shows only every second time or so

It only went away after deleting the (disbled!) filters rules pointing to
deleted folders.
