Sync does not connect on fennec when the desktop client has old sync version

Environment:
Desktop: FF 3.5.15/FF 3.6.12/FF 4.0b7 + Sync 1.5
Device: Fennec 1.1 + Sync 1.6 / Fennec 4.0b3
Steps to perform:
1.Install FF 3.5.15/FF 3.6.12/FF 4.0b7 + Sync 1.5
2. On device, install Fennec 1.1 + Sync 1.6/ latest mobile build
3. Configure desktop with new Sync account (account never used before for syncing). Sync
4. Configure device with the account from step 3. Sync
Expected:
Device connects to Sync Server. On second sync, on desktop, "You need to update FF Sync to continue syncing your data" message should be displayed.
Actual:
Device does not connect to Sync Server. "No saved password" message is displayed on device.
Note:
Only after generating another sync key on desktop and updating device with the new sync key, the device connects to the Sync Server. After that, while syncing desktop, the user gets "You need to update FF Sync to continue syncing your data" message.

When specifically is this error message displayed? Can you reproduce this reliably?
Please attach logs of both devices.

Fennec 1.1 only uses the Sync Add-on. If the Sync team wants to fix this
(Personally, I would not bother), they can decide to do it.
