This was tested, using:
Mozilla/5.0 (Maemo; Linux armv7l; rv:2.0b8pre) Gecko/20101214 Firefox/4.0b8pre Fennec/4.0b3

The litmus test mentioned in the url is failing, the soft keyboard doesn't come up at all, even when tapping 2 times.

Steps to reproduce (from the litmus test):
   1. close any hardware keyboard
   2. place the device in portrait view
   3. open fennec
   4. tap once in the URL Bar

Expected result:
one tap in the URL bar should bring up the Virtual Keyboard (Soft Keyboard)

Actual result:
No Virtual Keyboard becomes available.

I can still reproduce this on:
Mozilla/5.0 (Maemo; Linux armv7l; rv:2.0b9pre) Gecko/20101220
Firefox/4.0b9pre Fennec/4.0b4pre

Note that you have to have to have Fennec closed before the str. This only happens after the first start-up. After that, it works fine.

I'm not sure what you mean with the awesome page, but I tried it with about:home, which is normally the first page that comes up when Fennec starts up. I suspect, though, that it doesn't matter which page Fennec starts up with.

Still happening with Fennec4.0RC1 build 2 on first page load.
