Now that the site refresh has been launched with the stripped down optimized version of the non-fx user homepage we'd like to add back more branded elements into the design.

Basic goals, as discussed, are to add more visual flair and the
right brand presence without decreasing download conversions or page load
times.

Lee is working on finishing this page, and we're hoping to have it built and put into testing before the holiday break that starts EOD Wednesday.

Assigning this bug to me until the final designs are complete.
Target Milestone: --- → 1.0
Severity: normal → major
Thanks Lee!

Anthony - can you help build these two pages for a test, just like you did for past tests on /nova? We'll want to work with the optimized code base of this current page that's in production (www.mozilla.com).

The goal here is to add more visual flair and the right brand presence without decreasing download conversions or page load times.

It would be great to start testing this in production by EOD Wednesday so it can gather data during the holiday break but I realize that we're running tight on time here.

I'm on it but a few comments:

- There is only the Mac version in the PSD. So either we only test on Mac or I'll need more screenshots.

- The donwload counter can't be live for this test. What value should we use?

Lee is working on a PC version and will update here when done.

That's fine - since the download counter is still being fixed the intent here
is to show a static number in order to reinforce the fact that a ton of people
have downloaded. This has been shown to help increase consumer confidence in
the past, and thus, increase CTR. It's okay if this number is close but not
accurate.

Thanks for getting on this Anthony.
New PSD is here, with PC screenshot included in layers:

http://intothefuzz.com/leetom/Mozilla.com/PSD/home_newusers_test_05.psd
I couldn't find a good combination of Layers in the PSD. Curly was either too much on top of the screenshot or not complete. Maybe I missed a combination.

I'm in holidays in the family this week so not often in front of a computer, maybe you should assign this to someone else to launch the test.

We will also need a Linux screenshot (or don't serve the test to Linux users).
The layer combinations are already set up in the PSD. The "PC" version is should be visible once you open the file, and the "MAC" version is in the layer palette right below.
Alex or Steven, can either of you help finish up this bug? I was really hoping to get this launched last week, so we really really need to get it live this week.

Judging from the earlier comments, it looks like we're pretty far along already, so I don't think a huge amount of more work is needed. Also, we don't need a Linux screenshot for this.

Laura - what about using the alternate layout that Sean created as one of the tests?
We can take this. Anthony, is there anyone beyond the obvious needed here?
Thanks Steven - really appreciate it.

It sounds like Anthony is away from his computer...Laura, can you fill Steven in on any background he needs to know?

Yes - lets add this variation. We will need a PC version of this, and to remove the green download button on the screenshot then we'll be ready to build. I'll work with Lee to make those changes and then he can post the final here. The other two are ready to be built

Hi Steven - there should not be anything beyond the obvious needed here as this test will be very similiar to the prior homepage testing we've done on this page. The basic goal is to add more visual flair and the right brand presence without decreasing download conversions or page load times.

That said all prior page optimizations should be applied to these versions. These three versions of the page will ultimately need 3 unique URLs in production so that Blake can test.
Holiday madness. We'll be working on this Thursday.
Thanks Lee!

There should now be 3 versions to test:

1. One character; screenshot on top
2. Three characters; screenshot on top
3. Three characters; screenshot in middle/bottom of page

Laura
Thanks guys!

This one is ready for QA in trunk (as of r80049):

> 2. Three characters; screenshot on top

This one is ready for QA in trunk (as of r80049):
http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/creatures.html

For both 1. and 2., I think we can do better with the screenshots (we should probably have Windows 7 rather than XP?), but this should do for the test.

> 3. Three characters; screenshot in middle/bottom of page

This one is yet to be done as it was only brought to our attention late yesterday. Can we start testing the first two without the third, or do we need all three to start?
Thanks Steven. Really appreciate the holiday-time work here. Agreed re: the Win7 screenshots, but we can address that later when we upgrade the real thing.

As for the third page, my guess is that we probably should test all three simultaneously. Blake, let us know if you disagree.

Raymond, can you add the first two to your QA queue, at least?

Thanks. We'll have the third variation ready tomorrow.
Third variation added in trunk in r80116:

http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/new/button-top.html

Also moved the image files for this A/B test into a separate /img/test/ dir to make them easier to manage/cleanup later on (r80117 in trunk).

Thanks all! Looking forward to seeing how these pages do.

Blake - just launch when ready.
Update on this: SiteSpect is currently down since 1/4. We're waiting for this to be resolved. No bug has been filed regarding SiteSpec that I'm aware of.
Target Milestone: 1.0 → 1.1
while we wait for SiteSpect to get turned back on, can we push these new designs to production?

+1
+1

The pages have been built. I think all we need is a push?
Pushed to production.
