The current method inits an empty slave and waits for it to catch up via replication. This takes a while, and will only get worse. I'd like to play with copying the db files over and starting from there, which should technically make it go a lot faster. To figure out the exact steps, I'd like a slave vm that I can init/destroy/repeat a bunch of times. I should have the exact steps to reproduce, once I am done with the exercise.
For the curious - we will have to piece together a method from the information here http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin24/maintenance.html
