Empty tooltips (ie: a grey box for a tooltip that does not contain any text) are shown when the OK/Cancel buttons are hovered over with the mouse - on the new tab modal prompts. STR: 1) Using a new profile, sign into a Gmail account. 2) Go to compose message. 3) Enter an email address and a subject line, but leave the message body blank. 4) Press send. 5) On the "Send this message without text in the body?" prompt, hover over the "OK" button with the cursor. Expected: - Either no tooltip or the button caption as the tooltip. Actual: - An empty grey box containing no text. - Only appears on first hover, the prompt has to be closed and reopened to see it again. - See attached screenshot. Occurs using: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0b9pre) Gecko/20101227 Firefox/4.0b9pre Regression range... Last good nightly: 2010-11-19 First bad nightly: 2010-11-20 Pushlog: http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/pushloghtml?fromchange=6478c1b83d60&tochange=baa6cc2f72e4 In this range is: Bug 59314 - Alerts should be content-modal, not window-modal ...so the new tab modal alerts likely cause, adding that bug as dependency.

Hmm. With just opening a dialog via javascript:confirm("test") in a new tab, I can't reproduce this. But I can on Gmail, although on OS X I happen to get seemingly random tooltips from stuff in the page (which are clearly not near the button, so I'm not sure why they're being picked). The first time I got "Show Attachment Contents", the rest of the time I seem to get "Font". And I actually get the (same) tooltip anywhere in the content area, not just the buttons. Offhand I'd guess that this is focus related, and something is confused about what element is being hovered / what tooltip should be shown.

Do you think this could be related to/depend on bug 621764?

Getting random tooltips from page content sounds like a potential spoofing issue so this blocks for now.

I can't reproduce now, I suspect bug 620145 fixed this.

Reopen if you can reproduce this with Beta 9 / current nightly.

Confirmed fixed in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0b10pre) Gecko/20110114 Firefox/4.0b10pre ID:20110114030359, looks like bug 620145 did indeed sort this. Thanks!
