aravindm, this doesn't sound like Firefox is crashing, but the graphics driver is, which would not produce a stacktrace. Reporter, this isn't really a bug in Firefox from the sounds of it. Please update your graphics driver, you are using one from March, the latest version is 10.12

What happen if you disable the hardware acceleration ? Go to option > advanced > uncheck "use hardware acceleration when available". Then report back.
I have Windows 7 64b on laptop HP ProBook 4525s (graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 512MB) with drivers from hp.com for this particular laptop and OS. My firefox has version 4.0.1 This bug is happening quite often. Sometimes I open a tab or hover over a link, when whole system (not only firefox) freezes and doesn't respond to anything. After few seconds, mouse freezes. Then graphics driver is restarted by Windows and everything is ok. It also happened that the driver was not restarted and there wasn't any way to get out of the "frozen" sitiuation (like Ctrl + Shift + Esc/Del) than hard shut down done by power button on laptop. Reinstalling drivers didn't help. Hardware acceleration is checked, I try to uncheck it and then report. Thanks for any help or repairing :)

Can you try to download a new graphics driver from amd.com?
I have tried installing driver from amd.com and it seems to be ok now :-) But it's only one and half day ...

I have got rid of the card, which seems to have been the culprit in my case.
