https://developer.mozilla.org/en/XUL/preference#a-readonly has this note: "The readonly attribute did not work correctly on fields until Gecko 2.0", which is probably intended for XBL <field> @readonly attribute.

I removed that note from the XUL readonly attribute page and added it instead to
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/XBL/XBL_1.0_Reference/Elements#field
Also Firefox 4 for developers now links to that page:
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Firefox_4_for_developers#Miscellaneous_XUL_changes
In addition there also a note on:
https://developer.mozilla.org/en/XUL_Tutorial/Adding_Properties_to_XBL-defined_Elements#Readonly_Attribute
