Steps to reproduce:
1. Enable the browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll pref
(close mozilla, add user_pref("browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll", true); to
prefs.js, open mozilla again).
2. Click in the location bar
3. Press left to clear the selection (optional)
4. Click in the location bar again (in a different location? bug 47966)

Result:
The entire url is selected again.

Expected result:
There is no selection, and the insertion point is where you clicked the second
time.

no, this is not a bug. one click selects everything in the url bar, that is the
whole point of the browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll pref. one click, select all.
second click, still select all. marking invalid.

ps. sigh, its really too late for me to be making comments in bugsplat reports

The point of the browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll pref is to make it easier to
type/paste a new url into the location bar, and I believe it's possible to do
that without making it impossible to edit the url already in the location bar.
This bug makes leaves no way to use the mouse to focus the location bar without
selecting some of its text.

Nominating for nsbeta1: selecting location bar contents on click is a
frequently requested feature, and fixing this bug would help make the feature
more useful and less annoying.

there is no nsbeta1 anymore, but this is next on my list to work on.
