I believe all menus with menu-iconic don't display icons, not just the bookmark folders.

Summary: Icons are missing for menus (Linux) → Folder icons missing on Bookmarks menu
This change is a terrible idea, and degrades the UX. Bookmark management is one of Firefox's most powerful and useful features. It is vastly superior than Chrome and IE. Removing the very useful UX icon from bookmarks that indicates whether an item is a folder or a link is a giant step backwards. Please put the folder icon back into bookmarks.
I have over 20,000 bookmarks in Firefox, and hundreds of folders all categorized and organized neatly. This is part of various research and resource-building projects. Removing the folder icon may not be a big deal to casual users, but it's created a complete mess. Some bookmark folders are placed in the middle of lists of links, which were easily identified with the yellow folder icon. Now, these bookmark folders are indistinguishable from the bookmark links. Even when bookmark folders are all listed at the top, it's still not obvious what is a link and what is a folder, without looking at "location" to see if it's blank.
Please (please) put the folder icons back into bookmarks.
I run Firefox 22 on Windows 7.
thanks.
*Update* Here's a possible solution ... if you have the Firefox addon "Bookmark Favicon Changer" installed, then try uninstalling it. That worked for me. Apparently FF v22 is has broken compatibility with this addon, which is causing the bookmark folder icons to disappear.
