Details
(Whiteboard: [4b10])
4.0b7:
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/4.0b7/mac/ja-JP-mac/Firefox%204.0%20Beta%207.dmg
4.0b8:
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/4.0b8/mac/ja-JP-mac/Firefox%204.0%20Beta%208.dmg
The above builds are being offered updates to 4.0b9, not 4.0b10. As far as I can tell, it's just ja-JP-mac. I've tested other locales, including en-US, es-ES, fr, and de; they all update ok.
Summary: 4.0b7 and 4.0b8 ja-JP-mac builds update to 4.0b9 → 4.0b7 and 4.0b8 ja-JP-mac builds update to 4.0b9 instead of 4.0b10
Mac64 builds update to 4.0b10 as well. It might just be these two builds.

Did you mean 'Mac64 builds update to 4.0b9 as well' ? There's only one type of build for b7 and b8 - the i386+x86_64 universal.

Sorry, I meant that Mac64 builds update to b10. The only builds which update to b9 are Mac32-b7 (major) and Mac32-b8 (minor).

Then I'm confused, since you're restating what you said in comment #1.
Regardless, if I look at the snippets then any b8 or b7 betatest request on mac is going to get offered 4.0b9. In fact, the same is true on b4, b5, b6 (we started doing ja-JP-mac at b4).
Since we seem to have a disconnect on how to describe these builds, could you please post AUS queries in bugs so we know exactly what you mean.
Summary: 4.0b7 and 4.0b8 ja-JP-mac builds update to 4.0b9 instead of 4.0b10 → ja-JP-mac builds update to 4.0b9 instead of 4.0b10
Not sure how I can explain it any better.
Firefox 4.0b7 Mac i386 ja-JP-mac updates to Firefox 4.0b9.
Firefox 4.0b8 Mac i386 ja-JP-mac updates to Firefox 4.0b9.
All other builds update to Firefox 4.0b10. Test channel is betatest.
I'd be happy to get you the URLs. Can you please remind me the pref(s) which need to be enabled to get them?
Thanks.

Just set app.update.log to true and look in the Error Console for the ServiceURL.

This is a known issue, we had to fix manually in b9:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Releases/Firefox_4.0b9/BuildNotes#Updates
Assigning to jhford, since he's responsible for b10.
