This is the current welcome/first run page for Firefox Sync: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/sync/firstrun.html After speaking with the Sync, Mobile and Desktop team, we've identified low hanging fruit to cross promote mobile and drive sync setups on other platforms. (We currently have 625k sync adus on desktop and 3k on mobile.) We'd like to aim for this page to go live on or before Firefox 4 for mobile final release (mid-March). I'll be attaching proposed copy shortly.
Here's the link to the copy: https://docs.google.com/document/d/188_iXGCfOc4-F80O19kbH6ZBwe7lc22Zn_cOsRkwxOE/edit?hl=en&authkey=CLuo3asH We really want this page to be visually hard-hitting and apparent that you can set up Firefox Sync on your mobile/across multiple devices.
Thanks Caitlin. This is a great start - to make sure this gets tracked on the WebDev radar, can you also file a website bug (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Websites)? When you do, please mark as target milestone 1.3. That'll ensure this happens before Fx4.
Didn't see this comment until just now. Strange.
Hey Caitlin... I have a designer to help us with this. But first, can you please add more information around what you're looking for here? How much of a refresh is this to the design, what general changes/improvements are you looking to make... aside from the edits to copy. Also, can you please send us the PSD for the current design if you have that? I'm also happy to chat in person/via phone if you're available. Lastly, please let me know what your deadline is to hand off to webdev. Thanks
OS: Mac OS X → Windows 7
potentially model it after Firefox Home page (1-3 steps for setting up mobile) http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/mobile/home/
Hey Tara, Thanks for meeting with me about this. Can you provide a time frame for the designs? Ragavan has a usability study he'd like to conduct that will prob fall some time between March 8-March 15. Thanks.
I'll know better by tomorrow morning. I have a designer in line to work on this, but haven't briefed him yet. Will make sure you have something asap. But let me get back to you in terms of dates later tonight or tomorrow AM.
Sounds good. Thanks.
Hey Caitlin. Our designer is going to pick this up in the next few days. He should be able to crank through it for you pretty quickly. But just wanted to let you know that you may not see something until the weekend or possibly Monday at the latest. Hope that's okay. On that note, can you tell me what our deadlines are? I've got a bunch of things on Ty's plate and want to make sure I prioritize accordingly (Ty is our designer and cc-ed on this bug)
OS: Windows 7 → Windows XP
Target go live date would be March 8. Thanks!
Designing this page now. Question: the three steps in the copy are not the same as: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/mobile/sync/ Are we making these consistent? I think it would be best if we matched text + visuals wherever we showcase these steps.
Hi Sean - Good point. That said, this is a first run page so user has already completed step 1 and step 2 in the existing /Sync page to have made it this far -- now we need to get them to sync their other devices. The copy used in the gdoc is taking the copy directly from the step 3 (Connect) section of the /sync page, but just splitting up the steps so they're a bit more digestible. The change I just made was calling out "Sync your Android" and "Sync your iPhone"
ok, great. thanks!
BREAKING NEWS: Sync Page Mockup Complete, Awaiting Approval (TORONTO,CANADA) Through the use of graphic assets and supplied copy deck, Sean Martell has completed the mockup for the new Sync page for Firefox 4. When asked to give further details, Mr. Martell was quoted as saying "It's uploaded in PNG format at the link below." We'll be updating this bug as events continue to unfold. http://mozilla.seanmartell.com/engagement/mocodotcom/mobile-sync.png (CAPTION: Mr. Martell's Sync page mockup. PNG credit: Sean Martell)
Looks great! Two edits from me: 1) "over-the-air" should be hyper linked. 2) "Download" (in iPhone section) should be hyper linked. Thanks! Happy and loyal reader!
Also, Ragavan suggested "setup code" instead of sync code. This works as we don't state sync or setup in-product, but setup code sound more clear and actionable. What do you think?
And for Firefox Home, we actually call it "Passcode"

already updated.
Looks great. Thanks Sean. Caitlin, are we good to go? any other tweaks?
Looks like it still says sync code (vs setup code) and sync code in the iphone section instead of passcode. However, I think we should remain consistent and use setup code for both android and iphone. I'll talk to Ragavan and product team about this.
Oops. didn't notice it was used in multiple spots for both. updated for now. Let me know what the final verdict is.
passcode or setup code for iPhone. Please see comment 21.
Sean, can we get the final files posted here soon? Trying to wrap this one up.
