I think I'm seeing this too in Firefox 4.0 final, on mac only.

The awesomebar doesn't work at all, most of the time. It searches (spinning icon) but never finds anything. Doesn't find bookmarks or history.

Sometimes it has worked as it should for a minute or too after launching Firefox.

hm, maybe a broken database, how big is your places.sqlite? I'd like to have a look at it by mail.
btw, in comment 0 case could just be that an incompatible nightly or beta was run on the same profile.

No. This is a profile that had been working fine with bookmarks in tack in Minefield. Throughout the beta process for Fx4 I had a few awesomebar resets.

Chris Howse has run into this, I'm less suspicious of Fx4, than FxSync. If I notice this happen again, I can try to dig through crashplan to see if I can give you before/after dbs.
Both me and my colleague at work experienced this bug with our two separate profiles (on different OS X logins). I also got it with a new profile (with imported bookmarks and passwords).

Well there have been beta times where just downgrading to an old nightly build was causing the problem. So for example using the same profile from beta 9 in beta 7 is known to break, as well as using a beta 9 profile in a nightly older than some week.
But if you only always upgraded from older to newer it should not happen.
I'll bear that in mind.

I'm fine with this being closed as incomplete. If it happens in Fx4 final I'll be more alarmed.

It does happen in 4 final. That's the only place I've come across it. (Haven't tried any pre-4 builds on mac though.)
Reopening per comment 8.

I should maybe make it clear that the history database seems to be intact and working properly. Even when I get the bug the history seems to be recording my page views as it should.

Right now my awesomebar is working just fine. I'll send you my places.sqlite the next time I see the bug. It comes and goes. :/
I don't see anything strange in the database you sent me David, so your bug is not the same as the one Dave reported, I think you rather see bug 625776.
Ok, thanks. Thought I did a search for location bar but I didn't find that one. You're probably right.
there's nothing we can do here since there's not enough info to do anything. I actually think this could have been fixed in the last years already with the other corruption bugs.
