in the windows installer and the windows "uninstall software" dialog mozilla
calls itself 5.0 (in the installer "build 5.0 [buildID]" and in the software
dialog "mozilla seamonkey 5.0a1").
As we are going to call the first release mozilla 1.0 and the next milestones
will be mozilla 0.7,0.8,... these strings should be in the installer pre
[0.7/0.8/...] and in the software dialog "mozilla seamonkey pre [version number]
[build ID]".
This problem is in the "About" window, too. There the version is still M18, this
should also be pre [version number] [build ID].
These versioning issues (three ways to identify the version) are very confusing
for the end-user.
You have many bugs/rfe's here...
Some of your bugs are already covert:
Uninstall entry should not contain version number:
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46018
This isn't only Windows. It should be Mozilla Seamonkey pre(0.8), all over right
now. Mozilla 0.8 is the next milestone, 0.7 is being skipped as there is not
need for it at the moment.

I think "SeaMonkey" should be omitted. It was supposed to be the codename for the first
commercial ship of some entity. Anyway, whatever the codename is for, I don't think the
codename belongs in the (un)installer.
ok, good proposal, although i like seamonkey, cutting it is the right thing!
could we have ALL these different strings in ONE new stored, which is generated
with the build ID?
marking it OS -> ALL? The uninstaller part is win-only.
Marking NEW so someone will look at it and change it.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → NEW
Ever confirmed: true
I'll be looking at it.
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
is there a bug on the About window? if should be a seperate bug from this one.

And are we sure we're skipping the 0.7 release? I'm getting conflicting reports.

I wish someone official from mozilla.org could let us know what the offical
product name and version are.

ps. all this affects the window's "installer" as well (not just the uninstaller).
lets include some "official from mozilla.org" in the cc list...
0.7 is not being skipped, see the Roadmap
fixed checked in.
