User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b10) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b10 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b10) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b10 In older versions of fx, I recall bookmark and search engine keyword searches both being displayed in the Awesomebar popup; now, the current behaviour is inconsistent. Search engine keyword searches now can be performed, but there's no visual indication anything's happening. Reproducible: Always Expected Results: Possibility 1) In the same manner "Switch to tab:| *" actions are shown in the url-bar, a keyword should be translated to a "Search [search engine favicon + name]:|" upon pressing space after the keyword. e.g. if "g" is a keyword for the Google search engine, typing "g" followed by a space should be replaced with "Search [google favicon?]Google:|" Possibility 2) restore the old behavior of showing in the awesomebar popup. Possibility 1 should be favoured, see the attatchment for a mock-up. If a user decides not to use the keyword search, pressing down/up should select the relevant richlist item instead.

the word 'with' and the favicon is a maybe, the rest should be a must.

actually when typing a keyword followed by a searchterm, you get "[name_of_bookmark] keyword: [searchterm]" in the suggestions popup

I'm aware of that, but I'm lobbying for the same (or similar) function with Search Engine (for the search bar) keywords. Because that functionality is often dismissed because their lack of visual indication.

There's a label, #urlbar-display, that is used to say "Switch to tab" when appropriate. It should just change the cotnent in there. I don't know much about JS, but that's how you would do it.

At least the inconsistency described in this bug is definitely present and should be considered a bug. If you define keyword for your bookmark, then there’s visual feedback on using this keyword in the Awesomebar (a magnifier and the first suggestion changes as you type), whereas if you define keyword for your search engine, nothing is displayed/suggested when using this keyword in the Awesomebar. This should at least be brought on par or, of course, enhanced as described in the mockup.
I agree to this feature. Having no feedback when using search keywords and instead getting URLs that match the keyword is confusing.
I guess this bug can be closed now, as this feature has already been implemented.
