User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0b11) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b11 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0b11) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b11 When visiting certain webpages with the Firefox 4.0 beta, instead of the top of a web page being shown, the browser automatically scrolls down to a portion of the webpage after the page is loaded. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Visit an affected page. Actual Results: Pages is scrolled down to somewhere in the middle of the page; no noticeable pattern to how or why this happens. Expected Results: When the page is finished loading, the top of the page should be shown.
Works fine for me. Please try if you can reproduce it or if it works fine 1.in safe mode. https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode 2.or by creating a new profile https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing+profiles#Creating_a_profile

Updated the URL to an affected page. The previous page works again; from what I can tell, it tends to scroll down to embedded Flash video. Disabling the Flash plugin didn't affect the issue.

Also, it happens in safe mode, but not with a new profile.

http://beta.html5test.com/ scrolls to the end of the page
I also get it on http://www.urbanophile.com/ if having another case will help. Here is the post that causes the problem's page: http://www.urbanophile.com/2011/02/04/urbanoscope-18/ It seems to be Vimeo?
Just before the (http://beta.html5test.com/) page is done loading I get the following on the bottom left corner of the screen: "A " ----------------- "A " Screenshot is provided. Maybe this has something to do with the issue at hand.

I'm seeing this issue on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:2.0b12pre) Gecko/20110215 Firefox/4.0b12pre ID:20110215030353 If you click this link https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page#w_restore-the-default-home-page the page would scroll past the anchor.

Gonna have to put this back to unconfirmed, as I am having difficulty reproducing with a new profile. I wonder what the difference could be.

I don't understand.....why in the world is this now "Unconfirmed"??? Did you not read comment 0, comment 5, comment 7, comment 8, comment 11 and comment 13???

Another weird thing happens with this page. Not only does the page not take you to the proper bookmark within the page, but after the page loads when I scroll UP with my mouse wheel, the page actually then scrolls DOWN.

(In reply to comment #15) > I don't understand.....why in the world is this now "Unconfirmed"??? > > Did you not read comment 0, comment 5, comment 7, comment 8, comment 11 and > comment 13??? The problems is that, although I can reproduce this is my regular profile, I cannot reproduce it with a new profile. If this cannot be reproduced with a new profile, how are the devs supposed to be able to reproduce it? See comment 4. That is exactly my experience. It is possible this bug is due to some setting that prior builds left in the profiles. If you can come up with steps to reproduce with a new profile, I will gladly confirm it.

But that defeats the whole purpose of trying to solve this bug. The problem, as you state, is that with a brand spanking new profile, the issue does not appear. However, with your regular profile, it is broken, like it is with everyone else here. I had a similar problem with another bug, where it wasn't able to be reproduced with a new profile. What they had me do was send my regular profile as an e-mail attachment to one of the developers (you can NOT post your profile on Bugzilla), but first there was some files I had to delete within the profile (like cookies, bookmarks, etc = personal data) and I don't specifically remember what those files were. That is the only way this bug will be resolved - if someone is willing to provide their profile, through private e-mail to one of the developers. We won't know who that person is until the "Assigned To" field is changed to something other than "Nobody; OK to take and work on".

Using http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/tinderbox-builds/mozilla-central-win32/1298275617/ I am able to reproduce the issues with: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page#w_restore-the-default-home-page http://beta.html5test.com/ With a new, clean profile.

Sorry for the flood, but I was also able to reproduce it using Windows XP inside of a VMWare virtual machine. Again, with a clean & new profile.

That's Bug 633762 I already filed and what is fixed in the next Nightly.

Just FYI, I've updated the URL for this bug report to a page that I'm pretty sure doesn't update several times a day (bad idea to pick a blog that covers a sport that's currently in season), so it's reproducible. To add to that, while I was testing the bug against safe mode and a new account when I first reported this bug, I accidentally reset my account to a "new account" so the bug never popped up. However, I'm now seeing the bug again with what is essentially a three-week old account. I am willing to archive my current account (sans any personal data) for a developer to test with against a clean account in order to figure out what's going on with this bug.

Ugh. And just as I post that comment, the URL in question starts working fine. Replacing it with another affected page - the browser scrolls down so that the first YouTube vid on that page is at the top of the viewable area.

The current URL on this bug works for me on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:2.0b13pre) Gecko/20110228 Firefox/4.0b13pre ID:20110228030400 I still see the page scrolling past the anchor at https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page#w_restore-the-default-home-page If you could specify that URL instead? It might be a better idea as the URL is also a Mozilla page and consistently reproduces the bug.

Can't really tell what fixed this but https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page#w_restore-the-default-home-page WFM now on Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:2.2a1pre) Gecko/20110410 Firefox/4.2a1pre ID:20110410030507 Also seems to me like this is a duplicate of bug 633821.

CONFIRMED - The two sites in this bug both work for me and don't "skip" past the specified marker. 1) https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page#w_restore-the-default-home-page 2) http://beta.html5test.com/ Not sure what patch fixed this problem, but it would be nice to know for reference purposes.

This bug was reported using a pre-release version of Firefox 4. Now that Firefox 4.0.1 final has been released, can you please update and retest your bug? A fresh profile would be a good starting place to test, http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles. If you continue to see the issue, can you please update this bug with your results?
