Hi,
We're developing a German opt-in for our mozilla & you newsletter. We'll have a machine at CeBIT where attendees can opt-in onsite.
There are two pieces of art we need. They should be super simple. We're using the English page as our base.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/newsletter/
The sign up button on this page needs to be translated into German. It should read "Mozilla-Newsletter anmelden"
You'll notice that this page has an image of the English newsletter. We don't have a copy in German yet, so we'll need a generic pic from our site for the upper right hand side of the page.
Thanks!

Thanks Winston. Can you please let me know what your due date for this is?
Two questions:
* Is the copy on the sign-up button a graphic? If not, then I it's not something you need designed, and you can just swap out the copy into the German string.
* For the general pic. Do you have some direction around the type of image you're looking for here? If you can take a look and give me some ideas, that would be helpful. I'm not sure if I'm aware of any other graphic that would be appropriate for the newsletter... aside from the existing screenshot.

Hi Tara. Thanks for the reminder.
- I can't tell if it's an image or not. It looks to me like it's code - but I'm not 100% sure. Any ideas?
- I went through the site and didn't see anything perfect. We could focus on the top of the newsletter template and show the title of the email campaign in German. We could also use our white monster dude. I was hoping for something that reflected "keep in touch".

I think it's text, but I'm not 100% sure. Not a big deal, that's an easy one to do.
For the image, will you not have a German version of the email at all? even as a template or mock-up? I think we should show a screenshot of the actual newsletter vs. a seemingly random character like the Yeti :) We could also perhaps use an illustrated "mail" / envelope image... but i don't think we have anything interesting already in our archives to use. We'd have to create one which takes more time...

We will have German version... but not soon. I agree with you that a screenshot of the newsletter is a better tactic. But I don't think it makes sense to spend the time / $ localizing an old version of the newsletter just for the image. Do you agree? BUT - we do have some copy for the confirmation email in German. Let me see if I can drop that into an email template to see what it looks like. I'll follow up Friday.

Thanks. Yah, I meant to say if we have a mockup of what would actually be sent out already in the works... Let me know what you find out. Thanks :)

Hey Tara -
Here's a German copy of the welcome email they'll receive. This isn't as visually exciting as the screenshot of our newsletter, but I think it will work until we have a localized version of Mainstream news. See what you think.

I think that works. Perhaps we can take the surfing squirrel and walrus graphic and plop it on this German screenshot you sent me just to jazz it up a bit. Then we can update it as soon as you have the German newsletter out. Does that sound good?

Sounds like a plan. Here's the page as is stands today.

James is still working on the back end pieces. Will someone from creative review and suggest any edits that should be made to the layout and ensure it's consistent with our brand guidelines?

We'd like to have it wrapped up by Friday. Monday at the very latest so that it's up and running for CeBIT.

I added in the squirrel & walrus image to the newsletter.

PS - will you size it down to fit the spot on the sign up form? http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/de/newsletter/

Do you mean to resize the width of the blue footer?

We're replacing the image here - http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/img/news/example.png - and it looks like the old image is cropped, turned and has a slight fade. Can the new image be resized to the same dimensions / style so it's easy to swap out?

Here is the replacement image that you can just drop in.
