Details

(Whiteboard: [Fennec 4.0b5])

Build ID: Mozilla /5.0 (Android;Linux armv7l;rv:2.0b12pre) Gecko/20110214 Firefox/4.0b12pre Fennec /4.0b5pre

Device: Motorola Droid 2 (Android 2.2)

Sync: Sync 1.5.7
Client: Firefox 3.6.12
Device: Latest Fennec Nightly

1) Open Fennec > Preferences
2) select Sync:yes if disabled
3) select connect
4) select "I'm not near my computer"
5) In the Account field, enter your email address (eg. yourname@domain.com)
6) Also enter your password and 26 digit Sync key
7) click connect.
8) Open Firefox 3.6.x > Preferences.
9) Click Setup Firefox Sync
10) Click I already have a sync account
11) Enter your username, password and 26 digit sync key.
12) Select Sync.
13) Update the sync version to 1.6.x or latest sync release
14) After update, sign in on your Desktop. (Here it checks to see if your sync key is up to date)
15) Then, on Fennec, click "Sync Now" or wait 5 minutes for fennec to sync automatically.

Actual results:
In step 11, I cannot enter the 26 digit Sync key. Since I have Sync 1.5.x, I get the message "Wrong Sync key". So I have to generate an old-encoding sync key, after which I get the error message on my desktop: "you need to update Firefox Sync to continue syncing your data". As a consequence of this, a new 26-character key is automatically generated => "Wrong Sync key" message => the user has to change the sync key on mobile too !

Expected results:
1) After step 12, when you initially sync Firefox 3.6.x, Sync 1.5 and latest fennec release, you should get an error on your desktop - "you need to update Firefox Sync to continue syncing your data."
2) After step 15, you should be able to successfully sync data. Sync on Fennec should stay connected and should have the update with recent time stamp.
I also tried on another PC using Firefox 3.6.12 and I obtained an "Incorrect password" error message, even though the introduced password was correct. Due to this I will move this bug on Mozilla Services.

The Expected results are fulfilled if using Firefox 3.6.13 .
Whiteboard: [Fennec 4.0b5]
Freshly connecting to a Sync account with Firefox Sync 1.5.x (a release that's months old) is not supported. The upgrade path only works for already connected 1.5.x setups that are upgraded to 1.6.x.

1.5.x does not check whether it's outdated at connect/login time, which is why you're seeing the above behaviour. Since we can't go back in time and fix 1.5.x, hence marking this as INVALID.
