User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b11) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b11 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b11) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b11 Switching to certain tabs can take up to five seconds for the switch to complete. Facebook Find Friends page is one of the main culprits. Yahoo Mail Beta is another. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. go to facebook find friends page 2. scroll down two or three pages 3. select/open another tab 4. wait fifteen seconds 5. switch back to find friends tab Actual Results: Seemingly hangs and then takes five seconds to switch to selected tab. In addition, the title bar will exhibit "(Not Responding)" sporadically. Expected Results: Takes 0.5 seconds to switch to selected tab. Issue was also confirmed by an additional facebook user. Please see http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?uid=173578463110&topic=17450 for topic details.
beta12 has just being released, could you please try if it solved the issue?

try it as much as you wish, if you can't reproduce anymore please mark this bug as RESOLVED WORKSFORME (fixed is reserved for bugs with a patch).

Still has the same problem. In reproducible step 4., wait one-hundred eighty seconds (instead of fifteen) and then 4.0b12 will exhibit the same five seconds to switch back to the find friends tab.

I can't reproduce, so I'm first wondering, how much memory is installed on your computer? Do you see if you have flashblock installed? https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flashblock/ Do you see the same in safe-mode? Or in version 4? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode Do you get "unresponsive script" at any point?
Summary: Switching Tabs Can Be Very Slow → Switching Tabs Can Be Very Slow. (not responding) in title bar.
I have 2G RAM installed. I do not have flash block installed. I have not tried this in safe-mode. I have not received any unresponsive script dialogs.
I just re-tried my reproducible steps. I was able to reproduce successfully but with a slight modification. I believe the amount of pages needed to scroll depends on one's screen size. I have a 15.6 inch screen so I scrolled ten to fifteen pages. The more pages you scroll, the longer the switch back delay increases. It varies between two to five seconds. Normally the tab switches back instantaneously specifically if you switch back in less than three minute intervals.
I just reproduced the tab switch delay in safe-mode.
(In reply to donb from comment #8) > I just reproduced the tab switch delay in safe-mode. donb, thanks for testing that. Does this reproduce with a current version of Firefox? (versoin 11)

i am now using beta 12 and i just reproduced the issue. steps to reproduce; 1. go to facebook friend friends page. 2. scroll down the list of people until you reach the end of the listings. 3. switch to another tab, and wait exactly twenty seconds. 4. switch back to the facebook tab. the switch back takes three seconds to switch to the facebook tab. switching to other tabs, the switch back occurs instantaneously no matter how long you wait, hours or even days. if you switch back to the facebook tab in less than twenty seconds, the switch occurs instantaneously.

@Wayne, are you talking to me? I have tested nightly builds before no problem. I thought you guys were about to drop this because I did not think anyone cared if tab switching on one site took 3-5 seconds to switch. Plus this bug has been open for quite some time now.
(In reply to donb from comment #12) > @Wayne, are you talking to me? I have tested nightly builds before no > problem. yup. if it happens when using nightly then it'd be useful information
i tried the nightly. it does the same thing. tab switching takes ~3 seconds. if i scrolled down several pages more, i am sure it would extend to ~5 seconds. remember you have to wait twenty(ish) seconds or more for it to occur. if you switch tabs without waiting, you will never see it. i discovered it while i was reading in another tab, and decide to switch back to Facebook tab. i usually have at least 2-3 tabs open at any given time.
its because that user group has since expired. the post was from a year ago.

(including now unrestored session)
I'm not having any luck reproducing this. donb, are you still seeing it?
Flags: needinfo?(donb)
I can't say that I have been seeing it because 1) I've not been on FaceBook much if not at all, and 2) I've been exclusively using IE until Firefox gets released for Windows 8 Metro UI.

Ok, thanks. Please re-open if this becomes reproducible.
