User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b12) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b12
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b12) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b12
I have tried this on 2 OS, Vista and Win 7. This problem occurs only while using Win7.
After opening any PDF file within the browser, the browser will not perform any function.
It won't show the cursor but will allow typing. After typing (in address bar/search bar) neither mouse clicks nor return key will be registered.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open a pdf file.
2.Type in address bar or search bar

Works For Me on:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b13pre) Gecko/20110302 Firefox/4.0b13pre
*Note: Can you provide more clear steps to reproduce and, if possible, attach a screenshot of the issue?
What version of AdobePDF plugin do you have installed?
Update:
I was able to duplicate this issue in Vista SP1. My Win 7 is also running SP1.
Add-on: Adobe Acrobat 10.0.1.434
Link used: www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw4.pdf (Use any link with a PDF file in it)
2 things that I found while collecting this data:
1. The mouse clicks are working on back and forward buttons. I was able to go back on google and hit a new search. But again if I try to search using the search bar or go to a new address I can not.
2. It took me some time to collect all the screenshots (around 2-3 minutes). During this time the browser regained all its functions.
This is also happening in the initial 4.0 release as well. The steps the person described will duplicate the bug (using Adobe Reader X - plug in version 10.0.1.434):
1. Got to an address that has a link to a PDF document.
2. Click on the PDF link.
3. The PDF opens normally.
4. Close the PDF file.
If you go back to the address bar to type in a new address, you cannot get into the bar. You can see the screen change when you left click, but you cannot do anything (type, highlight etc.) in the address bar.
I forgot to add one final thing - my apologies.
You have to CLOSE Firefox and then reopen it to get the address bar to work properly.
To repeat - this IS happening in Firefox 4.0
I think I have discovered a workaround for this issues - but it still needs to be fixed...
1. Go into Adobe Reader X.
2. Click on Edit, then Preferences, then Documents.
3. Uncheck the box "Allow documents to hide the menu bar, toolbars, and window controls.
4. Within the Preferences box, click on General.
5. Uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at Startup".
When I performed step 4, I was able to highlight the address in the address bar, but NOT type in it. After performing step 5, I was able to change the address.
As stated, it is not a permanent solution, but to me (and probably others), I think it is a good workaround for the time being.

I have the same issues as described in comment #7, but when opening a PDF within Firefox with Foxit Reader 5.1.3.1201 as the installed PDF reader.
When a PDF is loaded, I cannot enter text into either the address bar or the search bar within the Navigation Toolbar. However, the buttons (e.g. back and reload) on the Navigation Toolbar work fine.
More specific about not being able to enter text into the specific fields, I cannot actually click with my mouse within the those two text fields and cause a blinking text entry cursor to appear.

Legacy extensions are no longer valid in Firefox 57, closing.
