It is not possible to change the order of columns in Mozilla. It is important, for me, to change the order of columns expecially in the mail inbox: I want have the sender and the subject before the date and the attachments flag... but I can only have a fixed order, decided by the designer.

Hmmm.... Yeah, once any tree can re-order its columns, so will the inbox. Verifying dup of bug 9656 - Column Reordering, and changing component from Layout to XP Toolkit/Widgets: Trees.
