User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.14) Gecko/20110218 AskTbGOM2/3.9.1.14019 Firefox/3.6.14 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729) SearchToolbar/1.2 Build Identifier: It is inconvenient for many users like https://wiki.mozilla.org/index.php?title=User:Alterego&redirect=no to use the wikipedia prefix to indicate that a Wikipedia page and find out that the interwiki system does not work the same here on this wiki. When users want to link to http://en.wikipedia.org as a reference they can more easily do it through invoking the interwiki table with [[wikipedia:foo]] where foo can be any page on Wikipedia. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Go to any page on the Mozilla Wiki. 2. Open the edit menu. 3. Add a string like [[wikipedia:foo]] where foo could be any page on http://en.wikipedia.org 4. Preview the results. Actual Results: Produces a redlink on the page, which connects when the user clicks on it to https://wiki.mozilla.org/index.php?title=Wikipedia:foo&action=edit&redlink=1 Expected Results: Produces a blue link, which connects when the user clicks on it to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foo or http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Foo

Agreed. See also bug 770076 to support an [[MDN:]] prefix. I think https://wiki.mozilla.org/api.php?action=query&meta=siteinfo&siprop=interwikimap lists the available interwiki prefixes, and the only one is the obsolete MDC: terminology.

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Interwiki details the 'how to', with https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Interwiki_linking giving some examples. *However* Using standard interwiki links makes a page specific to the wiki the link appears on (ie wiki.m.o) and would fail were the page to be copied to a different wiki (eg an internal one). An alternative would be to use a template structure instead, eg instead of [[w:Mozilla]] (for the page 'Mozilla' on Wikipedia) use {{link|w|Mozilla}} with that template producing the expanded link. Feedback comments please.

a quick make of the template option. "{{link|w|Mozilla}}" creates "[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla Mozilla]" and shows "Mozilla" "{{link|w|Mozilla|Mozillaaaaaa}}" creates "[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla Mozillaaaaa]" and shows "Mozillaaaaa"
