This bug can be used to coordinate localization of the Community Directory page on mozilla.org. If localized text or HTML is attached, I can check this in to the site (and we can work toward getting commit access to various localizers).

Michael, I'm interested in getting your thoughts on this page. The labels used for each site in the directory list are just the titles used for their home pages. Because of this I was assuming we'd leave those as is in localized versions and just translate the couple of paragraphs that explain what the page is. There might be a couple of advantages to that: * This page updates frequently as new sites come online and needing to localize each of these descriptions could become difficult to deal with. * Localizing a description of a site that's not available in that particular language might give the wrong impression where people thought it would be in their language and it's not. If there are some advantages to localizing everything, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts.

Hi David, we’ve localized the descriptions/labels to give German readers an idea of what this page is about. I see your point though, so next time this page is updated, we could start over, only localize the introduction and leave the rest of the page unchanged. That would mean less work for us, which wouldn’t be bad at all, too. ;-)

Michael, that makes sense. Another issue to consider is how to keep the content updated easily even if we don't localize the site descriptions. I've just added several sites related to the Firefox 4 launch, so you could update your localization to track that. That could become difficult to maintain though, so maybe there's also a way to include the list of sites so we can update it globally instead of copying it and maintaining each version? This is something that a real l10n system on mozilla.org would defnitely help with :)
