A new Browser window SHOULD appear above existing one (as an option).
I love the way Mozilla opens a new window exactly where the previous one was. I
move and size my browser window to exactly where i want it (as does anybody not
working in full screen - beginners work in full screen, so they aren't even
affected).
What better feature than to have the new window nicely placed where you want it.
The windows taskbar shows what programs are open, so I really don't see how
anybody could get confused.
Please, please leave this feature as it is - or at least make it an option

NS4 on linux did allways open a new windows at the same position, no matter what
you told KDE. I usually set KDE's new windows behaviour, that KDE should place
the new window "economic" (clever?) and Mozilla opens a new window, whereever it
(or KDE) wants, and thats quite annoying. Open it exactly over the old window
would be annoying too, since one allways MUST move a new window to somewhere
else... Usually the KDE-behaviour is wanted for most applications, but it is
horrible, if one opens tens of new windows within very short time as I usually
do.
I guess, the best would a way to let the user choose, if the desktop
environment chooses the best new windows position, or if the new windows should
open always on the same position.

I would like to see that option too.
BTW: Severity should be changed to enhancement and OS to all, I think.
milestone is for assignee. DO NOT TOUCH IT.
This is an enhancement request. If you want it done before Mozilla2.0 please do
it yourself.
Severity: critical → enhancement

apologies. Since bugzilla is so well structured, I thought that as a reporter,
since I COULD change the target, that it was INTENDED that the reporter do so.
No reason to get all huffy about it.

Getting back to Jure's comment three comments ago:
i agree, it definetely should be an option.
Most windowed windows take up at least 80-90% of the screen; so if one has more
than 5-10 windows open at a time, it is nearly impossible to switch between
windows by clicking on a covered window (and get the right one) anyway. The only
way to do it without getting the wrong window or accidentally clicking a
vertical scrollbari or resizing a window (causing a refresh) is via the toolbar.

Peter Lairo: Don't worry about timeless. He gets huffy sometimes. We just ignore
him when he's like that. ;-)
a) if you maximize your windows you get this for free
b) if you have a large screen eg, 1600x1200 content has no right to need your
browser to take up anywhere near that size not even 80%.
c) Wierd behaviors like this belong to your window manager.
If this bug does not find a happy owner in one week i'm resolving it invalid
based on the above grounds. Or someone else may and should feel free to site
me.

This is a duplicate of bug 25455 no matter what you think should be done with
it. Please add your opinions on whether this behaviour should stay or not in
that bug.

Marking duplicate based on comments above and on #mozillazine.
Discussion about making this option is already in bug 25455.
