644398 - Sometimes cannot select pulldown menus from Gnome with Compiz

On certain websites I find the Edit pulldown menu to copy/paste comment text on some websites disappears when I try to drag down.  I also could not right click the mouse which usually allows me to paste text  the menu disappears as soon as I try to drag the mouse - I saw it on a blog where I have a membership, but have not been able to reproduce it with a general website.  

Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce

Steps to Reproduce:
Go to blog website.
Try to select some text, paste in comments

Actual Results:  
The pulldown Edit menu disappears when I try to select copy/paste - as soon as I do the drag action the menu disappears!  Also happens when I right click the mouse which usually brings up the same functionality.  The menu only appears for an instant than vanishes.  Keyboard commands do work.

Expected Results:  
Menu should allow me to drag down and select desired functionality.


Sorry, I haven't been able to make this happen with a non-blog site where you don't need an account.  I did see it happen with http://www.nationalpost.com/index.html when I tried to comment on an article.

I did see it earlier on one other site, but I can't remember which one.


The default firefox shipped with Ubuntu 10.10 does not show this behavior.

Also, can this be related to Bug 638386?

I will try and do so.  The other bug is similar in that menus close before I can select anything (I am running compiz) but it wasn't after returning from the screen saver.  It may have the same root cause.

I have a little more information - it happened again just a few minutes ago.  When I launched another FF session and used the keyboard to copy/paste the same URL in the new session the menus worked properly.

This is a dupe of bug 638386 - setting as such. If you follow the steps presented in that bug you'll see that the consequences are the same as the ones posted here.

Feel free to reopen if you consider that I am not right.
