The Firefox live campaign is coming to an end soon and we need to shutdown the website on 4/14. One thing to consider: are we saving any data from the db or wiping it?
(In reply to comment #0) > One thing to consider: are we saving any data from the db or wiping it? Thanks Mike. So I know, what kind of info is on the db now? I would assume we'd just wipe it, but want to make sure I have the full context.
I know this is a Wordpress site. Did we outsource the development to an external contractor, or did we do this in-house? Have we done a post-mortem to analyze metrics/goals on the campaign?
(In reply to comment #2) > I know this is a Wordpress site. Did we outsource the development to an > external contractor, or did we do this in-house? It was done by Zemoga (external). > Have we done a post-mortem to analyze metrics/goals on the campaign? We've been analyzing metrics along the way and long ago blew away our original goals for the campaign (it's been a big success). Would be glad to set up a specific post mortem if you want.
Thanks John. Sometime I'd love to hear about the success of the campaign, what we learned from it, and what we'd like to repeat in the future. I saw some of my non-technical friends post this on their Facebook wall, which I was surprised by (very cool!). It'd be nice to have an official post-mortem. But it could also just be included in the retirement blog post for this site on website-archive.mozilla.org. I've added the site to the nominated sites list: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Websites/Taskforce/Proposals/Abandoned_Sites/2011#Nominated_Sites
John: It doesn't look like we're collecting any data on the site. Do you know of any forms where we are asking for someone's email address or any personal information?

Not to sound flip, but the key learning is this: you really can't go wrong featuring super cute baby red pandas on your website. (In reply to comment #5) > John: It doesn't look like we're collecting any data on the site. Do you know > of any forms where we are asking for someone's email address or any personal > information? Nope. There were a couple of times where we asked people to upload content to YouTube, but those projects always took place outside the site. Thanks Ryan!
Ha! Yes, it's definitely hard to go wrong with cute live pandas. In that case, I doubt we are collecting any information that needs to be expunged. I will assign this ticket to myself and prepare for site retirement. Can you create a blog post with the screen shot for Firefox Live in website-archive.mozilla.org? Basic guidelines: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Websites/Taskforce/Proposals/Abandoned_Sites/Retire#Blog_Post

Hey John - Can you get the blog post put together for this site? We can add that to the Website Archive at https://blog.mozilla.com/website-archive/category/retired/ when you're ready.
Hey Ryan. I'm in the process of writing a blog post about the end of the site for blog.mozilla.com. Think we could repurpose that, or should this be more a general overview of what the site was?
Also, should I file a bug for a redirect? If someone goes to firefoxlive.org should we point to mozilla.org? Or give a 404? Thanks
I'd point the redirect to the end of life blog post.
Yep, firefoxlive.com will be redirected to: http://blog.mozilla.com/blog/2011/04/12/firefox-live-trekking-with-pandas-and-new-adventures-for-spark-and-ember/ There's also a separate blog post covering historical information about the site at: https://blog.mozilla.com/website-archive/2011/04/12/firefox-live/ I'll file a separate ticket to have the site shutdown on the 14th. Mike Alexis will be sending out a meeting request for the campaign retrospective.
