Outlook Express does this and it's very nice.
and if you uncheck "use SSL", port number should off couse change back to 119
It has been recently fixed: see bug 48092 Marking WORKSFORME, if this feature breaks please reopen bug 48092

It is indeed a DUP of 48092, but I've since re-opened that bug, because I'm seeing regression.
