2001010517 linux there is an annoying inconsistancy between how moz and NC4.75 treat middle-mouse clicks: in NC 4.75, the scrollwheel becomes disabled on click-down, and link will open in new window. in mozilla, scrolling still works when i click down, and if i scroll slightly (which often happens accidentally at this point) - the link will not open if i scrolled away from the link and cursor then is over normal text when i release button. Expected behaviour: As in NC4.75, where scrolling is temporarily disabled while middle-button is pressed.

Nice, idea, assuming the statements are correct.
there's a missing premise. pref aware, middle clicking will activate panning. assuming that we don't trigger panning, and pref aware we open link in new window, you want us to do what exactly? [ignore the fact that you clicked and spun instead of flat clicking?] Consider the average mouse system. User button one clicks a link and moves the mouse 20 px [N/S] before releasing the button. Should we forgive these 20px? Until UI people make a decision, this is their nightmare. Reporter/CCs please defend your views or attack my misconceptions.

Chaning the qa contact on these bugs to me. MPT will be moving to the owner of this component shortly. I would like to thank him for all his hard work as he moves roles in mozilla.org...Yada, Yada, Yada...

I agree with the reporter. Mousing down with the middle mouse button should temporarily disable mousewheel scrolling, since these are (usually) performed using the same moving part in the same hardware device, and one can interfere with the other. For pan-scrolling you'll need to mouse up before going anywhere, which (unlike bug 49844) isn't a big deal because pan-scrolling is a relatively slow and extended action (short scrolling actions are what the mousewheel itself is for). --> XP Toolkit/Widgets
