Firefox Mobile 4.0 RC1 build 3, Android 2.3.3, Nexus S, portrait mode Logging into gmx.net in german in classic mode takes very long/minutes (background: GMX is a very large freemail provider) Steps to reproduce: 1. Open gmx.net in Firefox Mobile (maybe you will have to set general.useragent.locale to de before). This page loads slow, but also in a desktop Firefox with Fennec's useragent. 2. Scroll to the bottom and click 'GMX klassisch'. 3. Now you will need a free mail account to login with freemail login on the top left. After submitting, it takes a long time until Firefox Mobile has the page loaded (switching between mails later works fast). Logging in with desktop Firefox with Fennec's useragent works fast, on the phone I see high cpu usage.
I can't seem to reproduce the issue. The GMX.net page is slow, even on my desktop, but I got from step 3 to viewing my email in only a few seconds on my Galaxy Tab running Firefox for mobile with Phony set to "default" (showing the desktop view). I saw the same behavior and similar performance with the stock Android browser, by the way. Maybe this was a temporary issue with GMX or your web connection?

I tried it again and it seems to be at least partially a phone or Android related issue: Nexus S: Latest Fennec with default UA: Logging in 90 seconds, going to mail list takes even longer Stock browser and Fennec with desktop Firefox UA seem to load both pages faster, but still in more than 40 seconds Notebook (Windows, slowed down to 600 MHz, 1GB RAM, same internet connection) With default UA: After-login page in 3-15 seconds, mail list in 5-20 seconds. I'm not testing with Fennec UA as I am not sure if I set all UA information correct.
I just tried this again and find that it is really hit and miss -- sometimes the stock browser seems to bring up the GMX / Freemail pages a little faster, sometimes Firefox "wins" this race. My guess is that it is a combination of connection speed and GMX server speed, which seems to vary quite a bit. Compared to the speed of desktop and laptop computers, even the fastest mobile phones are about 10 times slower today - which is mostly due to system architecture and hardware components (such as graphics processor, bus speeds, wireless connection speed, etc.) - comparing processor speed and main memory only does not give you the complete picture. I am sure we will get to see much faster mobile devices in the not-so-distant future, that will get closer to the performance of a desktop.
