It isn't immediately obvious from this that it's trying to parse version info from hg.  I'm not sure where the script is, but it would be great if that message was "Cannot parse version information in version control" or something of the sort.

Identify that we are fetching the version-url specified here.

You should probably do the same for local information:
           echo "Cannot get locale information"
Sure, makes sense to do it for Locale too.

for the record, rtucker is handling most of the nagios stuff these days.
Actually, arr might be for the build-related ones.
