This was supposed to have been done in bug 627132, but League Gothic is still being used, and we have gotten a complaint about it for non-English languages: http://mdn.uservoice.com/forums/51389-mdn-website-feedback-http-developer-mozilla-org/suggestions/1714967-add-missing-characters-to-league-gothic-font
I believe Bebas Neue had some vertical sizing/alignment issues that only showed up on certain platforms (i.e. it was layed out differently on Mac/Windows/Linux). We discovered this at the last minute, and were forced to revert to League until we could find a workaround (or the foundry addresses the problem). @Craig: I think you were the one that uncovered this. Can you confirm?
Yes, Bebas Neue has a much higher baseline on Mac than it does on Windows, so we had to switch back at the last minute. Unless the font has been fixed in the last few weeks, and I'll test it to be sure. League Gothic has a pretty broad character set with lots of accents and diacritics. However, at some point we had only the English subset deployed somewhere (I don't recall where) and needed to update it with the full character set. I'll double-check that the font with full character set is in place everywhere it needs to be (on the main MDN site as well as the forums and wiki). Even so, League Gothic doesn't contain *every* possible character so some languages are still going to have trouble. Anything using a Cyrillic alphabet, for example, might wind up with an awkward blend of League Gothic and some other fallback font for the unsupported characters. If that's the case, we're better off using a different font for headings in that language, which we can do if we have more specific info (namely which language and on which pages it's a problem).
(In reply to comment #2) Hi Craig. It looks like Bebas Neue is the default font now. Is that correct? If so, I will update the UserVoice issue linked to in the description.
