Crash Data

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0

When I want to backup my bookmarks, I select the option Backup from the Import and Backup menu. Immediately Firefox crashes.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click: CTRL + SHIFT + B
2. Click: Import and Backup
3. Click: Backup
4. Crash...
Actual Results:
The Crash report dialog appears.

Expected Results:
Open a dialog to select a file location for the backup

This also happens when I want to browse for a file to upload within a e107 content management system. The browse button should open a file dialog te select a file for upload, but instead, a crash appears.

This should have something to do with my modified Explorer layout. I have moved my Documents folder for example. I have created a guest account and tried the same with that fresh account, and everything works as expected.

Maybe there's something wrong with path settings, but this should never cause a crash in my opinion.

Can you reproduce the crash in safe mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode

How about with a new, empty profile? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#Make_a_new_profile
Summary: crash if I backup my bookmarks → crash if I backup my bookmarks [@ TV_GetItemRect(_TREE*, _TREEITEM*, tagRECT*, unsigned int) ]

Yes, this issue can be reproduced in safe mode and with a new empty profile.

Is there any progress?
I found out that an option in Microsoft File Explorer caused the crash.
To solve this:
- Go to "Organize"
- Choose "Folder and search options"
- uncheck "Automatically expand to current folder"

Now Firefox won't crash again!

This workaround worked for me too with Firefox 18 and Windows 7. Firefox was crashing every time I tried to right click and save image.
I was having the same problem. Firefox, (and occasionally my whole computer) would freeze or crash. Interestingly, I follow the fix outlined here, except the option to Automatically expand to current folder wasn't checked. I checked it, then unchecked it and hit apply, and now my problem seems to have been fixed.

Thanks for the help!!
I also had this problem, although rather than it dying immediately, it would instead lockup, and while CPU usage went modest, it didn't burn all my CPU (though notably, my fan always turned on). I've had this problem for months! Win7 pro. Like wheelieking above, my option wasn't checked either. So I checked/applied/unchecked/applied and presto.. works now. Can anyone enlighten me as to how this bug occurs? It was very hard to track down beyond knowing the file chooser dialog being playing a role.
