BLOOD is the official journal of ther American Society of Hematology. By accessing this wedsite it is possible to download pdf files of scientific articles.
Recently, a new Web 2.0 platform has been launched which was expected to enhance online access to the journal.
Indeed, the Web 2.0 platform cannot be accessed using Firefox 4.0 whereas it can using Safari.

I have got the same problem: Firefox doesn't download any .pdf file.
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:7.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0
Is this site specific? Mac-only? I can download the PDF using Linux.

I have reproduced the issue on MacOS X 10.6.
On Mac 10.7 the pdf files are opened with "Preview"

I believe that is what is expected. Mac and Linux do not have PDF integration into the browser without an add-on. The PDF should be able to open in the native app (Preview on Mac, Document Viewer on Ubuntu).
The bug, as described, appears to be that the PDF can't even be downloaded. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Your right Anthony. I've try to view this test page http://www.education.gov.yk.ca/pdf/pdf-test.pdf but the screen is white, the page doesn't load.
I don't have the option to save the page either. I've tested this on:
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:9.0a1) Gecko/20110817 Firefox/9.0a1
In Firefox 3.6.20 works fine the same page test, meaning that i can see the pdf file.
It seems that from Firefox 4.0.1 this issue is present.
To clarify,
3.6.20 the PDF loads in the iframe on the webpage
9.0a1 the PDF does not load in the iframe
Are you able to manually download the PDF? View source to find the file and copy it into the address bar.
I'm curious because since Linux uses the native application for all PDFs, it just downloads with Firefox and opens in the native app. This is normally the case on Mac too, so this site might be hijacking that native call. All PDFs on Mac should open in Preview.app, afaik.
I have installed Adobe Reader X (10.1.0) and now I can download the .pdf files with download manager. If I "double clicking" the file from the download manager, adobe reader starts displaying the content of the page.
Thanks Vlad.
@carmelo, are you able to download the PDF by installing Acrobat Reader X 10.1?

Hi guys.
I have a test that involves downloading this pdf: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f1040ez.pdf?portlet=3
Even though I have the latest adobe reader installed (see comment8), the pdf doesn't appear in the tab and I don't have the download option. Perhaps the pdf from the link is broken?
This is part from a litmus test: testcase ID 27434
This is reproducible for me on: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:7.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0 beta 2

Works fine for me. On Mac and Linux the link in comment 10 automatically asks me to download the file or open with the native preview app.

WFM too. After a clean install of Adobe, I can now download the .pdf files.

Hi guys.
The issue is back.
When opening the link from comment10, the page doesn't load at all and I don't get the choice to save the pdf file.
A clean install of Adobe doesn't resolve the problem.
If I want to download/view the pdf I must go to Preferences > Applications and choose manually "Use Adobe Reader" option - the default option is " Use PDF Browser Plugin" which in my opinion is broken.

The builds are
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:8.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/8.0 beta 1
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:9.0a2) Gecko/20110929 Firefox/9.0a2
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:10.0a1) Gecko/20110929 Firefox/10.0a1
If I want to view the pdf file I have to follow the steps from comment14 on all three builds.

Without Adobe Acrobat Reader installed this works fine:
* asks me to download or open with Preview.app immediately upon clicking link
* DOWNLOAD saves the file and I can open it without problems in Preview
* OPEN opens the file in Preview.app without problems
After installing Adobe Acrobat Reader 10.1.1 and accepting it as default for PDF
* asks me to download or open with Adobe Reader immediately upon clicking link
* DOWNLOAD saves the file and I can open it without problems in Adobe or Preview
* OPEN opens the file in Adobe Reader without problems
Assuming you are using a in-browser plugin, the following article points to two supported plugins:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Adobe_Reader
* Schubert: http://www.schubert-it.com/pluginpdf/
* PDF Plugin for Mac: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/pdf-plugin-for-firefox-on-mac-/
PDF Plugin for Mac does not work with Firefox 4.0+ so I can only assume you are using Schubert.
After installing Schubert and restarting Firefox, clicking the link in comment 10 displays the PDF in Firefox without any problems whatsoever.
The only quirk I see is even though Adobe Reader has a preference "Display in Browser" set, I do not see the PDF in browser when using it. It just opens in the Adobe Reader app (as I indicated above).
Even the test file in comment 0 works the same:
* Schubert displays in iframe
* Adobe Reader displays in Adobe Reader
* No plugins displays in Preview.app
* Can download without any problems either way
I have no idea how you are reproducing this bug. We need more information than "this still happens to me" to reopen this bug.
