(Whiteboard: Join Mozilla Firefox-ification)
After several weeks of the Join Mozilla program being live we have reached a conclusion that we need to have a stronger affiliation and connection to the Firefox brand to make the program successful.
Currently the landing page and other materials have a strong Mozilla "red" look and feel - which is a disjointed experience for a Firefox user interested in joining and coming from a call to action on the Mozilla Firefox site.
We'd like to keep the overall page structure of mozilla.org/join however change the background image to be more in keeping with mozilla.org/firefox.
We like the people in the background very much and the placard with the heart
We're keen to see the "M" badge removed, and instead play to the strengths of the Mozilla and Firefox brands.
The program should still be called "Join Mozilla" with the sub-header "Help us build a better Web", however, we will look to change the CTA on the page "Protect the Web. Join Mozilla".
Further more - we want to change the design of the t-shirt and the supporter card / certificate (I'll be file a separate bug for those assets) and these will need to be graphically changed on this landing page in the "Share the Love, Show the Love" section.
Timing: we are looking to get the new design as soon as possible please.

Thanks Jane. Did you confirm that WebDev would be able to push this live soon? If so, we'll jump on it as soon as possible.

Hi John, I spoke with Mike and he thinks its best to go back to Crowd Favorite, who are the agency who worked with us previously on building the site.
Ryan is in communication with CF, and we're hoping to hear back early next week.

Note: Crowd Fav the web team team are ready to start as soon as we have the assets.
Hi All,
Here's a pass at Firefoxifying the Join Mozilla program. Keep in mind that the merch shown will need to be redesigned (shirt & card), so they're FPO in this mockup. Also, the forms on the second half of the page will mimic the live page now, but for sake of reviewing design elements quickly I'm passing this around now - so please concentrate on the hero section of the page; color palette, FF logo button/CTA colors etc. and let me know what you think!

Thanks Lee. Color palette and hero section look good to me. I think the main area that needs tweaking (and we knew this going in) is the header nav. The black mozilla wordmark feels pretty lonely out there and the nav itself feels too centered over the Join Mozilla text. Plus, I miss the mozilla tab, although as we discussed I'm not sure how to reconcile that with the wordmark on the left.
Sean, Jane, Chelsea - what do you guys think?

Loving it! thanks Lee.
Would it be terrible to have the Mozilla Firefox logo on the left just as on http://www.mozilla.com and the Mozilla tab on the right?

That would certainly make it easier. It'd strongly imply that this is a Firefox page rather than a Mozilla one, though. Are we comfortable with that level of Firefox-ification? If we do that, we might as well build this into the mozilla.com flow (which may be the right thing, but that'd be the logical conclusion).

Hmm... in a way I think we need more input from the moz.org folks. IMHO I think the way you described in comment 7 would be just fine. Ryan / Chelsea can you also comment please?

Hey guys,
Loving how the page looks. Much more welcoming.
In terms of where this particular page lives, it's actually a donate.mozilla.org page (as it's a contribution page and on the BSD system for secure payment processing). I'm happy to fill you in on how we update that particular page if you'd like.
The pages that live on join.mozilla.org are the Thank you page (http://join.mozilla.org/thankyou.en.html) and the FAQ page (http://join.mozilla.org/faq.en.html). In terms of where those live, that was decided by Ryan, Paul and David Boswell, so I don't know all the details involved in that decision making, beyond Mozilla.org is where MoFo builds it's projects.

The Firefox site will be on mozilla.org before too long, so it may not matter all that much in the end. But, changing the header to Firefox definitely implies a stronger connection to Firefox than Mozilla itself. I think that's the main question here...are you guys ok with that?

Visually looks great but I have to say it feels a little odd to have the mozilla.org header nav next to the Firefox branding. It's pretty inconsistent.
Do we need the mozilla.org header nav there at all? What are the content priorities?

John - we'd ideally like to get into the next moz.com web release schedule for may 9th launch. I've filed a implementation bug for that (implementation Bug 653202). I've assigned it to Laura F and am waiting to hear back.
If that works - we ideally are looking to confirm assets for this Friday 4/29. Is that possible? Thanks.

I think so...Lee, are you comfortable with that? The biggest time snag might be the t-shirt and membership card graphics that are on the page...if we could keep those as FPO for Friday and then drop in new files when they're ready (next week?) I'd feel better.
Otherwise, the main thing for me is resolving the header issue as noted in comment #17.

Hi All,
I just want to make sure that there are no more issues w/ the visual design here. Since this page is going to inform the rest of the Join Mozilla assets, I'd like to confirm that there are no open issues before I move onto revising the other assets.
I know the header/nav issue is still open, but those changes can hopefully take place, somewhat separate from the basic visual design.

John - I think that would be fine, if we can drop them in whilst CF are doing the work?

Ryan / Mark - can you chime in here so we can get the bug wrapped up. I am personally fine. I'll also grab cbeard.

Ultimately that's the developer's call, but based on many times we've done things like this in the past it should be fine. The images will be the same size as the existing ones, so it should be a very simple swap.

As part of this last round of feedback, let's try to wrap up the header nav issue too. I do think it's important to get that right...the current solution doesn't feel correct to me.

Just spoke with cbeard and there are two options on the table re: navigation.
(I) Keep the BSD landing page and add in the mozilla.com/firefox nav
(II) Keep the page as you have mocked up Lee, and file a bug to change it at a later date, but dont let it stop us from proceeding. (Cbeard was happy with it like it is for now John).

I'd rather add the complete mozilla.com nav here, to be honest. If that's ok with the Foundation guys let's just do that.
Otherwise, is it safe to say that we're ok on the general design direction?

Hey Jane, Lee,
If we change the CTA button (Protect the Web. Join Mozilla) that's a design change. I'll have the new copy options to you and the team today so we can decide if we want to try something new.

I can select the type on the live page, so it's most likely built in the code. I'd submit the copy options to webdev to implement - that is, unless you want to see button versions in mockups.

We can make the copy changes on the landing page within BSD so that shouldn't hold up crowd favorite getting the design going. Thanks Lee!
