User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:6.0a1) Gecko/20110422 Firefox/6.0a1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:6.0a1) Gecko/20110422 Firefox/6.0a1 Command-W (close tab) doesn't work much of the time in the last few nightly builds. On most tabs, it works fine. On some tabs, nothing happens, although you may see a brief flash of blue on the file menu. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open a bunch of tabs to different sites. I've had this happen on YouTube, but also on many other sites. 2. Try to close the current one with command-W 3. Sometimes it closes it. Sometimes, nothing happens. 4. Sometimes, switching to something else, like another tab, then switching back, allows it to close. Actual Results: Sometimes it closes it. Sometimes, nothing happens. Expected Results: Tab closes with command-W.
Works for me on Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:6.0a1) Gecko/20110425 Firefox/6.0a1 Also, could you see if the issue occurs if using Firefox in safe mode: http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode How about with a new, empty testing profile? (Don't install any addons into it) http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
As of the 4/30 build, I still get the problem. I restarted in safe mode and did not get the problem. However, I then restarted in normal mode, with everything enabled, and did not get the problem. The problem seems intermittent. I definitely get it sometimes, but not every time.
This seems to be happening mainly (or entirely) on pages with flash on them. Still getting the problem on the 5/13 build.
Can this be bug 78414 ? Can you narrow it down to flash plugin catching the focus and keypresses?

Just got it again, on another flash site. I tried clicking outside the flash part of the window, and was able to command-w, but could not before doing so. It does look like flash is stealing focus from the (newly rendered) window. I didn't click on flash. Even if I had, it shouldn't override basic window controls.
Thank you, that is exactly what bug 78414 is about - determining and implementing which main keyboard shortcuts shouldn't be sent to the plugin but always to the browser. I think bug 78414 will fix your problem.
