(Whiteboard: [featurerequest] [widget][prod=2015-01-29])
We tend to abuse mediawiki tables to do really more than they're
designed. This must not be working very well since google spreadsheets
are heavily utilized. Sometimes these spreadsheets are copied to the
wiki, which leads to the non-canonical resource problem.
Instead, a mechanism should be implemented that does fit our usage
need. If mediawiki cannot be trained to do what we want, then we
should allow the embedding of tables/spreadsheets from e.g. google
spreadsheets. I would contend that google spreadsheets are a less
than ideal solution, as they are not deployable software, and would
advocate a simple REST-ful table webapp, but google spreadsheets seem
to be what people want to use.
