Details
Most apps on Mac OS X 10.7 Lion enable resuming[1] by default and support a new key combination, Cmd+Opt+Q, for "Quit and Discard Windows". Questions: * Should we change Firefox's default behavior to automatically restore windows, at least on Lion, in order to match the behavior of built-in apps? * When Firefox is set to restore automatically, should Cmd+Opt+Q make Firefox discard the session entirely, or just not restore automatically on the next startup? * When Firefox is set to not restore automatically, should Cmd+Opt+Q become "Quit and Keep Windows", like it does in TextWrangler? * Can we implement the behavior where holding the Option key modifies the appearance of the menu item? This isn't intentionally mozilla-corporation-confidential, is it?

I marked it as confidential due to the NDA on pre-release Lion. I don't know how much Apple cares enough about the secrecy of this detail.

Lion is out, no need to keep this confidential.

The behaviour is more complex than this. If the "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" tickbox is ticked in the General control panel, then the option with Alt is "Quit and Discard Windows". If the "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" tickbox is unticked, then the option with Alt is "Quit and Keep Windows".

This bug should depend on bug 639707 – no Resume support, nothing to do in this bug. :)

I was imagining that we'd hook this shortcut up directly to Firefox's session restore.
