User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1
This doe not seem to be specific to certain web pages. The main symptom appears to be if firefox is open in one user account and then is also opened in another user account. Starts running very slowly and turns mouse arrow into spinning colour wheel. I also get a lot of unresponsive script messages after this occurs in both user accounts. Messages are generally referring to different scripts. Have had to use 'Control - Click' on task bar icon and force quit to restore machine to useable state.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start firefox in one user account and go to any webpage
2. Start firefox in another user account and go to any webpage
3. Wait.
Actual Results:
I get the symptoms described above and slow response from all other open applications.
Expected Results:
Previous versions never seemed to slow the machine down or fail to respond when open in multiple user accounts simultaneously.
I know I have never seen an unresponsive script message before.

do you see this if firefox is started in safe mode?
which script is being identified in the error dialog?
Severity: critical → major

I am not using Firefox in safe mode and am not sure what you mean by that as I can not find any reference to safe mode in Firefox Help.
No particular script was identified the few times it came up. Just the generic error message.
Further info. It also seems to be related to the number of web pages that you may have open, so I am not sure whether the Mac may also simply be running out of memory? Single window in one user and up to three windows with up to three tabs in each in other user.
Not sure if that helps at all.

in that case, check error console please.
script name of the form xxxxx.js
A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete.

Does it happen if you do *not* have gmail running in both browsers? Or just one?
I only have gmail running in one logon. Firefox in the other logon has been being used to view real estate pages.

Rephrased - does this happen if gmail is not running *anywhere*, in no tabs, in no windows?
I am not sure if it is reproducible without gmail running. I am no longer using multiple logons.
