we're seeing users on SUMO and feedback on input about sync not working (giving an "unknown error", resetting sync doesn't help).  In many of these cases the user was using the sync extension in 3.6 before updating.

The only fix we can see is to remove the sync extension.  I can't reproduce on a test computer, but it's a fair bit of traffic.

Can we fix this, since it affects a lot of early adopters.
This is possible if people are forcing compat of old versions.  1.7 should be compatible.  Do we have data on versions people are using?
The Sync add-on is marked compatible with Firefox 4 and 5 but disables the code and UI provided by the add-on. Going forward, we are going to EOL the add-on by providing a self-destructing update, so this essentially becomes WONTFIX.
