This happens since Firefox 4.0
The status bar sometimes is aligned to right side of the window instead of the left one.

This must be fixed ASAP.
I think you may be noticing the fix to bug 631270. Is the find bar open when you see the status panel on the right? If so, that's intended behavior, and I don't think it will be changing.
I suggest duplicating against bug 631250.
