Hi Laura, promoting Firefox Beta for Mobile to Firefox Beta Users (4.0.1b users, 4.0 (b1-b2) users, 5.0b1, 5.0b2 users) live date: throttle (next week start with 4.0, 4.0.1 and wait till we have enough 5.0b2 users) will come find you today or tomorrow to set it up so i can try my snippet access :)
We can confer with Laura Forrest to track down the previous beta snippe we used for 4. (I believ we cited "4" so we'll want to amend regardless.) I'm not sure what it takes to change the copy, but proposed copy for this beta snippet is: "Get Firefox Beta for Android. Experience cutting edge features and provide your feedback."
Hi Grace - I can help you push these live to the beta channel. I'll setup time with you on Monday to walk you through it. Caitlin - here's a link to the snippet gallery: https://picasaweb.google.com/lforrest/StartPageSnippetIcons?authkey=Gv1sRgCKSU07Gh2cbmeA&feat=directlink There's the generic mobile graphic that can be used. If another one is preferred, please work with Tara to get it created. I think it would be a good idea to get a couple of different ones created to use for this, and in the future.

hi les, laura and i have updated the snippet in staging (Firefox Beta for Android (5) ) Can you please review that this is being viewed by 5.0 beta users, 4.0 beta users, 4.0.1 beta users and push to production? thanks!

Have you guys reviewed / QA'd this snippet in Firefox with the switcher addon? Does it look right in about:home? As for the rules: They don't look right, but I'm confused as to what they should be. Is the intent to target the rapid release beta channel in general? Right now the snippet lists Firefox 5.0b* (en-US), Aurora Channel (en-US), and Firefox 4.0b* (en-US). The first one is okay for 5.0 betas, I think. It'll miss 6.0 betas when they come down the line, though. But, Aurora is not beta. And, 4.0b* will match the Firefox 4 betas up to the release in March - those are different than the rapid release beta channel going forward now, as I understand it. Also, I don't think there's a such thing as a 4.0.1 beta, just release.

Does it look right in about:home? - we did qa it with the switcher addon. it worked for a while then now we cant seem to find it using the switcher addon (laura's switcher addon). i have the switcher addon but it's not working for me. it crashes and closes firefox whenever i hit preview. > > As for the rules: They don't look right, but I'm confused as to what they > should be. TL;DR: * Snippet should be visible again after a markup fix. * The addon shouldn't crash the browser, that's bad. * Rules are mostly good (5.0b, 4.0b, and aurora), but I'm still not sure how to identify a 4.0.1 beta (In reply to comment #5) > - we did qa it with the switcher addon. it worked for a while then now we > cant seem to find it using the switcher addon (laura's switcher addon). Looks like the snippet was invalid markup, which Firefox will just not display. (which is crappy) There was an "&" that needed to be "&" in the link URL (ie. "WT.mc_id=smobilebeta&") After that fix, it should be showing up again > i have the switcher addon but it's not working for me. it crashes and closes > firefox whenever i hit preview. Huh. That's not good - there shouldn't be anything in the addon that's capable of crashing the browser. What version / channel / etc are you using? > users in aurora and beta channels seems to be more of the early > adopters/early majority crowd to promote mobile beta Okay, so that being the case, the rules look okay > > Also, I don't think there's a such thing as a 4.0.1 beta, just release. > > - we have about 1.8 in 4.0.1 beta i believe. 1.8 million? Just wondering how that's measured, just to be sure of the rule to add. I can't find what pattern would match a 4.0.1 beta, and we don't have it listed as a release in product details: http://svn.mozilla.org/libs/product-details/history/firefoxHistory.class.php Is the version something like 4.0.1b1? Is there an example user-agent string somewhere I can look at?
I just dumped this snippet from staging and loaded it in production. Still don't have a rule for 4.0.1 beta - but it should start matching 5.0b*, Aurora, and 4.0b* If someone can come up with a user agent string or example version for a 4.0.1 beta, we can compose a rule to match it
