Norton's remoter-ed into my PC and there support advised that support for there child safe product "Safety Minder" is only supported in Firefox 4.0 and will not be supported for 4.0.1. I have this in writing from their web support. So my dilemma is Windows XP IE8 is gone, and I need to upgrade to 7 to get IE9, and Firefox is not supported by Norton's.
So I liked your speed and options but I have children and security must come first. Please let me know if you have suggestions.

Don't know what you expect us to do here. We can't change norton's product. You'll have to complain to them or get a different content filter.

Not sure what you mean : Firefox 4.0.1 *is* Firefox 4.0 (well, with 1 additional security update). Maybe Norton support doesn't know that ?
Great. This is why I stay with Windows. Tried Ubuntu, etc and now Firefox. All to hard. If one of the biggest security providers (Norton's) has a feature that doesn't work with your product, you say let's put it in the to hard basket.
They don't need you, you need them to grow your product.
IE9, Apple and cloud products must be a concern.
And Jo, Norton's support 4.0 only and have no plans to support 4.0.1 at this stage for the "child secure product" "Safety Minder".
When you have kids, talk yo me.

Yep, head in sand, all to hard. Common sense tells me both sides need to work together. But hey, not your problem, right. Sheeezz.
OK, Firefox has a security hole when it comes to children, and they can't be bothered to work with Norton's. Norton's say it's your problem, you say it's there's. Ok kids, out of the sandbox and play nice.
I'm sorry I think you are talking about content filters, not security. Second, it is not our problem, if norton marks their product as incompatible, then it is incompatible. I don't think they should be though, because Firefox 4.0.1 is almost exactly the same as Firefox 4. People don't mark extensions as invalid for point releases most of the time.

But, why do you think it is incompatible? https://onlinefamily.norton.com/familysafety/help.fs?action=sysRequirements Clearly states that it supports internet explorer 6 and higher (including IE8) and Firefox 3.x and higher (including firefox 4.0.1)

I have 3 grandchildren, but none of them are allowed within 10 metres of a Windows PC :-)
Norton may just have screwed up and marked it as compatible with "4.0" rather than "4.*", though that seems like a odd mistake to make (this isn't their first rodeo).

Kev, can we contact them and see what's going on?

Mark, thanks for the report.

Mark: can you let me know what specifically is incompatible? I'm assuming it's an extension; Symantec products usually use IPS and Norton Toolbar, and I'd like to understand if that is the case. Early versions of the addons were deliberately marked 4.0-compatible only, but the latest versions should be 4.*. I'm happy to reach out to them, just need a little more info on what's not compatible with Firefox, and hope the Norton CSR provided this info.
Kev, thanks for not sitting on fence and waiting for someone else to look at this, well done. YES it is "Norton's" problem but someone has to step up. I have gave them hell about this including a remote connection.
I have a Norton's have a product called "Safety Minder".
It is a browser protection program inbuilt to there 360 security software, that stops and reports bad sites attempted via email to me. It works very well with IE8. Many other security software providers are offering the same and in this day and age is with kids is mandatory for parents who care what their kids do.
I get a message from Firefox stating it does not support this with 4,0.1. Symantec's support desk advise that they do not support Firefox 4.0.1 and have no plans to do so.
The following is a emailed quote from there support desk.
"Norton Safety Minder will not support Firefox 4.0.1"
Lastly, the reason I have pursued this is that I am new to Firefox, AND it is much faster and from what I have read more secure than IE.
I can supply the whole transcript from Norton's help desk if req'd.
This requires someone with access to the product to be tested.
Fwiw I can see that they at least released things for additional versions

I would close it as INVALID, as the bug is not relevant anymore.
If there is a new issue with current versions of Firefox, please open a bug. Thanks.
