Details

Negative margins are displayed as positive margins to avoid graphic confusion (Firebug behavior). This can mislead the web developer.

Could we display the margins positively, but maybe draw an inner box showing the actual negative margins inside the element? The inner box could have a dashed border to outline it, but wouldn't obscure the element contents with values because they'd still be in the "outer" box.
The related Firebug issue to this including some suggestions is http://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/detail?id=4399.
This is a bug about a feature we don't have. WONTFIX. We will file a new bug the day we draw margins on the highlighter.
