I tried a new profile: does not work. Btw. I was looking at http://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-2.0/annotate/fca718600ca0/toolkit/xre/nsAppRunner.cpp#l2701 and: ventnor@26700 2661 PRBool buggyCairoShutdown = cairo_version() < CAIRO_VERSION_ENCODE(1, 4, 0); I have version 1.4.10-25.2 of Cairo installed.
Took a look at: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Installing%20Firefox%20on%20Linux?s=system+requirements&as=s "Before you install Firefox, make sure that your computer has the required libraries installed. Missing libraries will cause Firefox to be inoperable." The link goes to: "Hmmm, we’re having trouble finding that one." ;-)

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:7.0a1) Gecko/20110615 Firefox/7.0a1 Did you get your build from the mozilla.org site or did you compile it yourself/ got it from some other repositories? What version of Linux are you using? Can you please try the latest beta build that can be found here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/5.0b7-candidates/ Thanks!
I got firefox 4.0.1 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html German version as you may have seen. Linux: an older OpenSuSE 10.3. with updates. I tried to check the libraries at https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Installing%20Firefox%20on%20Linux?s=system+requirements&as=s but "the required libraries" still gives a "Hmmm, we’re having trouble finding that one." . Btw. it is working with firefox-5.0b7.tar.bz2 . So you can close this (and please correct https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Installing%20Firefox%20on%20Linux?s=system+requirements&as=s ). Looking forward to final version 5.X . ;-)

5.0beta crashed too after writing the above. :-( See crashes with fresh ~/.mozilla and no addons: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/f80cd25a-d45c-49aa-b91c-23dca2110617 https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/528c5569-8856-4897-b3ca-272062110617 I first moved my old .mozilla somewhere else, then I tried with 5.0 beta (therefore new ~/.mozilla ): worked. Then I copied the old .mozilla from 4.0.1 and started,closed 5.0beta: worked. Then I wrote the above positive bug report, took part in the user survey and afterwards closed 5.0beta: crash. :-( unfortunately bugzilla has no way to remove the "resolved as" status.

Crash report with old ~/.mozilla and addons: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-ed819825-2132-4393-995b-45ff32110617 With "no way to remove the "resolved as" status." I meant the pulldown menu below the text entry field for new comments. But obviously it is done automatically.

With a clean profile it works and with your old profile it crashes? Just try this on both 4 and 5 - fresh clean empty profile: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles
1) 5.0beta worked at first with a new profile. 2) Then I tried the old profile: worked also. 3) started with old profile again:Wrote the bug report. user survey and then 5.0beta crashed when I closed it. 4) New profile (complete fresh ~/.mozilla) and 5.0beta crashed also. So it only worked once with a new profile and with the old one. Maybe I left too less time between 2) and 3) maybe it would have crashed at also - I don't know. When I try a new profile I move my ~/.mozilla to ~/.mozilla_old and then I start firefox. Firefox asks if it should copy from Opera, I select that it should copy nothing. If I go back to the old profile I simply mv ~/.mozilla_old ~/.mozilla Today I tried with the released 5.0 version. Got it here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html Crashed with old profile at start: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-907fe610-d15f-491b-b062-208032110621 Crashed with new profile at exit (2nd try) (submitted report but erased profile). Crashed at exit with old profile. (3rd try): https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-557918a0-bfa1-475c-8a41-eac5b2110621
I just tried the following: a) move ~/.opera somwhere else b) move ~/.mozilla somewhere else c) start with new profile without addons therefore Firefox 5.0 starts with http://www.moz_glx_ignore_blacklist=1.com/ which it does not find - is that normal? d) crashes at exit See report at https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/bp-b82d2084-b327-4de0-90d1-739272110621
btw. firefox crashes with old and new profile on 2 different machines with that older OpenSuSE 10.3 Versions previous to 4.0 did not crash.
Today I installed Thunderbird 5.0. It also crashes at exit. Tried with a new .thunderbird (==new profile): also crashes. Previous German version 3.1.11 did not crash. Shall I open a separate ticket for Thunderbird 5.0?
Got Thunderbird 5.0 German version here: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all.html
Firefox 6.0 and Thunderbird 6.0 (German version) also crash in the same way. :-(

(In reply to Wayne Mery (:wsmwk) from comment #14) > Are you still crashing with new, current versions?? After Sept 2011, what a necrobugzilla. :-) Yes it was still crashing Jan 20th, 2013 with firefox-18.0.1, German version, 32 Bit under SuSE 10.3 thunderbird-17.0.2esr, German version, 32Bit and SuSE 10.3 These were the last versions I was using with SuSE 10.3 (I have now updated OpenSuSE so I am no longer using 10.3). I got these vesions here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/ http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/ So this bug is still present in older SuSE versions but I cannot help you anymore. Bug not resolved but "bypassed". ;-)
